Thanks for the suggestion on going over tests. Tried some of the mini-whiteboard tactics with year 7 mixed ability yesterday afternoon, although I didn't quite have all of their attention all of the time, I reckon it was considerably more than usual! And at least I had some evidence of their inattention - "I asked you to do this and you haven't," rather than true but unverifiable accusations of not listening!
